Holy Week 2026

During Holy Week, we commemorate Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, Jesus's death on the cross, and His victory over death in the Resurrection.

This page is your guide to:

• See the Bishop Eckman's Holy Week Schedule, including live streamed liturgies.

• Come to the Easter Blessing of families on Easter Sunday.
• Mark your calendar for life-giving events during the Easter season.

• 12 p.m. Mass at Saint Paul Cathedral (Fifth Avenue at Craig Street). * 

• 10 a.m.: Chrism Mass at Saint Paul Cathedral. * 
  • This Mass marks the institution of the priesthood. Priests renew their ordination promises. The bishop consecrates all holy oils for Church use throughout the year. 
• 2:30 p.m.: Bishop Eckman will celebrate Mass and wash inmates’ feet at the Allegheny County Jail. 
• 7 p.m.: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Saint Paul Cathedral. * 
  • The cathedral will be open for private prayer until midnight. 

• 1:30 p.m.: Liturgy at Saint Paul Cathedral. * Good Friday is the only day on which there is no Mass. 
• 3 p.m.: Confessions available at Saint Paul Cathedral. 

• 10 a.m.: Ecumenical Blessing of the City of Pittsburgh from the overlook across from Saint Mary of the Mount Church (Mary Queen of Peace Parish), on Grandview Avenue.  
  • Bishop Eckman joins others in the Christian Leaders Fellowship for this 35th annual ritual. 
• 12 p.m.: Blessing of food and Easter baskets at Saint Paul Cathedral. 
• 8:30 p.m.: Easter Vigil at Saint Paul Cathedral. * 
  • This is the holiest liturgy of the Church year, retelling the stories of God’s creation and redemption of the world. It begins with the lighting of a fire outside the church, and the carrying of light into the darkened nave. New Catholics are baptized and received into the Church. No other Saturday evening Masses will be celebrated at the cathedral. 

• 2-4 p.m.: Easter Blessing of Families at Saint Paul Cathedral. 
  • All families are invited to meet our bishops, receive an Easter blessing, and take home a sweet treat. 

Come with your family to Saint Paul Cathedral on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM to meet, greet and receive a blessing from Bishops of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. 

It will be a beautiful afternoon of fellowship, celebrating the joy of the resurrection. All are welcome!
