The Diocese of Pittsburgh is committed to transparency and has published its independently audited financial report every year since 1969. These documents will help you to understand how the Diocese of Pittsburgh uses your gifts to serve Jesus.
January 2026
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
As we renew our commitment to living our faith and sharing the love of Jesus with our neighbors, I am delighted to inform you that the Diocese of Pittsburgh once again has a balanced budget. Your generous gifts made this possible despite an inflationary economy that has made life more difficult for many of you.
Even with the headwinds of inflation and the slow recovery, our parishes are growing in strength and unity. The women and men on my senior staff are deeply engaged in strategic planning so that all of our parishes and schools will be financially sustainable for years to come.
For more than half a century, the Diocese of Pittsburgh has published the independently audited financial reports of its Central Administration. We do this so that you will know that your offerings are used to advance the mission given to the Church by Jesus Himself.
My staff and I are able to pursue His mission in Southwestern Pennsylvania only because of your generosity. Nearly all funds for Central Administration come from the annual Parish Appeal, which supports ministries that individual parishes cannot carry out alone. Some of these include campus ministry to help college students grow in their faith, seminary and formation programs to support men as they discern a call to the priesthood or diaconate, and many essential services, ranging from payroll to security, for parishes and schools.
All of you, the faithful in our six counties, are in my prayers as I trust I am in yours. My service as your Bishop is to help you grow in faith—which I do with support from many dedicated diocesan employees. All of these efforts are sustained with your generous support. Thank you again and again!
Grateful for our continued efforts together in being On Mission for The Church Alive!, and for our belief that “Nothing is Impossible with God,” I am
Your brother in Christ,
Most Reverend Mark A. Eckman
Bishop of Pittsburgh
