Director of Worship and Music The primary objective of the Director of Worship and Music is to actively lead the music ministry program for Our Lady of Hope Parish and create a dynamic and inspiring worship community by providing and overseeing high-quality liturgies with a focus on a lively Sunday Experience. The position requires the ability to manage the music ministry staff and choirs, coordinate and train volunteers, and direct music ensembles. The ability to play the piano/organ, lead music, and cantor are required skills. This full-time salaried position will be employed by our Lady of Hope of Parish, which consists of St. Gabriel, St. Germaine, Nativity, and St. Valentine churches located in the South Hills area. The Director of Worship and Music participates as a member of the Ministerial Leadership Team. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this position is a highly motivated and organized individual who is an active Catholic in good standing with a passion for evangelization and growth of Our Lady of Hope Parish and should possess strong music proficiency and leadership, communication, and interpersonal strengths. Leadership Responsibilities: • Supports the current music ministry staff for all church sites. o Collaborate with the clergy, councils, and other staff members to plan and coordinate music for weekly Masses and special liturgies.
Develop and guide parish liturgical ministries and related departments to integrate music into parish initiatives and events. o Facilitate OLH Worship Council meetings along with the Director of Pastoral Ministry. Participate in the steering meetings and contribute insights and ideas for enhancing the musical aspect of liturgy. o Work closely with the clergy and staff to coordinate sacramental celebrations.
Support the staff in coordination with family members for Weddings and Funerals.
Provide organ/piano playing for all Mother of Mercy Academy Masses and events.
Collaborate with the Director of Faith Formation to plan CCD liturgies.
Coordinate joint choral performances with the other music ministers of OLH.
Serve as a spiritual leader and role model within the parish community, nurturing a deep appreciation for the sacred role of music in worship and fostering a spirit of prayerfulness and reverence among musicians and parishioners alike.
Recruitment, Training and Development:
Recruit and train choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists, fostering a sense of teamwork, excellence, and spiritual growth.
Provide ongoing musical formation for choir members.
Identify and nurture potential leaders within the music ministry.
Pursue ongoing training and education opportunities applicable to all music ministers.
Administration:
Maintain an organized music library, including an extensive choral library, instrumental sheet music, and digital resources, ensuring accessibility and appropriate usage rights.
Arrange for regular tuning and maintenance of musical instruments and sound systems.
Managing the scheduling of liturgies, rehearsals, performances, and other music/worship activities, coordinating with the clergy and the ministerial leadership team. This is to ensure alignment with the parish calendar and liturgical.
Organize logistics for music ministry events, including setup and teardown of equipment, transportation of instruments, and coordination of volunteers and support staff as needed. • Overseeing expenditures for the music ministry department.
Submit Weekend Masses played by music ministers, and all substitutes for payroll purposes.
Design, prepare, and print worship aids when required.
Coordinate the schedules for musicians and vocalists for liturgical celebrations and special events.
