Résumés are now being accepted for the position of Director of the Office for Missions of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This is a full-time, exempt position located at the Diocese of Pittsburgh Pastoral Center. The Director of the Office for Missions directs the local office in collaboration with the National Office of the Pontifical Societies in the United States by carrying out the initiatives of each of the societies (Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Missionary Childhood Association, and Society of St. Peter the Apostle). Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:A college degree, and should ideally have experience related to Faith Formation, and have taken a course(s) in missiology. EXPERIENCE:Five (5) years working/volunteer experience, within the Church, either at the diocesan or parish level. Some missionary background and experience with Catholic Schools and parish faith formation programming. KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS: •Must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church. •Must have a deep appreciation for and understanding of the Catholic faith and a passion for supporting the ministry of the Church. •Excellent interpersonal skills. •Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. •Proficient in Microsoft Office Business Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint). •Basic knowledge related to accounting, bookkeeping, fundraising, and marketing strategies. •Able to operate office equipment including computer, copier, and telephone. ROUTINE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Responsible for supporting the missionary programs of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith through: mission awareness raising, especially through activities, programs and presentations throughout the Diocese, parishes and schools and through Diocesan media coverage. •Process and acknowledge the collection receipts from World Mission Sunday. •Screen applications and coordinate assignments of religious missionary groups to all the parishes on an annual basis according to the approved Diocesan guidelines. •Update annually all related policies, selection processes, applications, suitability and evaluation forms, and disbursement procedures. •Collaborate with the National Office in coordinating, promoting and processing the annual Propagation of the Faith Appeals and Missionary Coop Plan (MCP) and by completing reports of such and remit receipts. •Coordinate MCP Mission Appeals and supporting documentation for parishes and missionaries. •Serve as a liaison for monetary gifts designated for specific missionaries/missionary organizations as requested by parishes/individual donors. •Prepare and provide Propagation of the Faith memorial cards as requested, maintain the list of the deceased and those requesting Masses. •Promote support for seminarians and religious novices in the missions around the world by coordinating the Society of St. Peter the Apostle Appeal and acknowledging gifts and remit monies to national office. •In collaboration with Parish Catechetical Leaders and Catholic School Principals, promote and support the programs and activities of the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA). •In parishes and schools, promote and educate about what it means to be missionary through the MCA website and materials. •Act as the Diocesan representative for Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the officially recognized Catholic humanitarian relief and development organization of the USCCB. •Participate in parish and Diocesan activities when invited and present CRS related workshops in Catholic Schools and parishes. •Encourage support of and process donations for the CRS Operation CRS Rice Bowl. •Approve annual financial reports for the National Office. •Prepare all required reports and documents for annual audit. •Oversee deposits of received funds, and maintain accurate up-to-date records/data base for all contributions from parishes and individual donors. •Oversee timely remittances/disbursements of funds to appropriate organizations/individuals. •Maintain mailing lists and submit regular updates to national offices. •Acknowledge all donations promptly. •Maintain donor databases and tax records; keep detailed/accurate parish and individual donor lists of receipts on spreadsheets. •Collaborate with Diocesan Communications for appropriate articles or videos regarding the Church’s Mission activity. •Email staff/parishes for informational/promotional purposes and provide regular updates. •Prepare Mission related announcements for the weekly Clergy email update. •Prepare for, drive agenda, and implement action items from Chimbote Foundation board meetings. •Support to the Chimbote Foundation in regards to the Golf Outing, Annual Dinner, Catholic School and Parish visits, and other fundraisers throughout the Diocese. •Acknowledge all donations provided to the Chimbote Foundation.
