Ave Maria Academy in the South Hills will move temporarily to remote learning due to COVID cases and related staffing shortages.

Holy Family Catholic School in Plum has temporarily switched to remote learning, effective today, Thursday January 13, due to staffing issues related to COVID.

Four Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh will begin or extend remote learning into next week due to COVID cases or COVID-related staffing issues.

Two Diocese of Pittsburgh Catholic Schools will shift to remote learning due to COVID-related issues.

In a continuing commitment to care for the health, safety, and spiritual well-being of the faithful in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik announces the following updated COVID-19 Safety Protocols for diocesan parishes.  These practices are effective January 7, 2022, and are to be continued until further notice. 

St. Benedict The Moor School (Hill District) will be closed for in-person instruction while repairs are being made to the school’s heating system.  The building will be without heat while the work is being done, and with the anticipated cold temperatures, it was decided to transition to virtual learning.

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 at Saint Bede Catholic School (Point Breeze) will move to virtual learning Thursday, January 6 and Friday, January 7, 2022 due to COVID-19 related staffing issues. In-person learning will resume Monday, January 10.

Saint Gregory Catholic Elementary School (Zelienople) will conduct virtual learning this week, after the principal was informed that seven staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. 

Given the recent record-breaking surge in positive COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County and surrounding counties, Bishop David Zubik is reminding everyone of the current diocesan safety protocols. He is doing so in order to safely continue in-person Masses throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

With the approval of Bishop David Zubik, the District of the Eastern North America’s Provincial/Visitor, Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC, and the support of the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. Board of Directors along with approval of the Central Catholic High School Board of Directors, Brother Michael Andrejko, FSC, has been named the next Principal for Central Catholic High School (Oakland).

On behalf of the Member Board of the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc., Bishop David Zubik has appointed Joseph Wilson, 48, as President of North Catholic High School (Cranberry Township) effective November 22, 2021.  

Pope Francis has named the Rev. Mark Eckman as auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh. Bishop-elect Eckman has been a priest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for more than 36 years and serves as pastor of Resurrection Parish.

At a special Mass on October 17, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul Cathedral, Bishop David Zubik will ask the Holy Spirit to guide the participation of local Catholics in a worldwide consultation that Pope Francis has convoked to help him identify how best to discern God’s call to the Universal Church.

As part of annual Respect Life Month activities, on the evening of October 19 in St. Paul Cathedral, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will offer a Rosary and Mass for the Protection of Life and Respect and Dignity of the Human Person.

Saint Benedict the Moor elementary school will be closed for in-person instruction effective September 17, 2021, and will resume on Monday, September 27, 2021.  School administrators learned of eight positive COVID cases involving members of the school community in the past four days.

Schools of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will begin the 2021-2022 school year with mandatory masking indoors for students, faculty, and staff -- regardless of vaccination status -- unless medical or developmental conditions prohibit their use.

As variants of the COVID-19 virus continue to spread, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is updating safety procedures at Mass and Bishop David Zubik is urging everyone to get vaccinated and to wear masks when indoors with others.
