Bishop David Zubik will host four listening sessions in late November and early December, and is asking parishioners and others to attend to express their thoughts and concerns, and to offer suggestions following the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report.

Cardinal Wuerl, who served the people of Pittsburgh for 18 years as our bishop, requested that Pope Francis allow him to step-down as Archbishop of Washington for the healing of the victims of abuse and their families and for the good of the Church.

As a bishop and as a Christian, I am committed to finding new ways to offer compassion and support for all victims of child sexual abuse, and to ensure they have a voice. The additional spiritual pain that victims of Catholic priests have endured is of especially deep concern to me and to the Church.

Since the release of the grand jury report on August 14, we the Catholic bishops of Pennsylvania have reflected deeply on the ugly record of clergy sexual abuse in our Commonwealth, and on times when Church leadership failed to protect our people over a period of decades.  

Bishop David Zubik has announced a Year of Repentance in which all clergy of the Diocese of Pittsburgh are asked to fast and pray for the purification of the Church in light of the scandal of child sexual abuse, and all Catholics are invited to join in. A diocesan-wide service to liturgically inaugurate the Year of Repentance will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 3 p.m. in Saint Paul Cathedral, Oakland.

Today the Diocese of Pittsburgh made a report to the District Attorney of Allegheny County after receiving an allegation of sexual misconduct against then-Monsignor Anthony G. Bosco dating from the late 1960s. Diocesan officials followed their longtime policy in reporting the allegation to the District Attorney. This is the first and only allegation the diocese has received against Bishop Bosco.

Bishop David Zubik has placed one active priest and two retired priests on administrative leave following allegations of sexual abuse of a minor received in the wake of the Grand Jury report on six Pennsylvania dioceses.

The board of directors of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School and the board of Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. (CHSDOP) have accepted the request of Cardinal Donald Wuerl to remove his name from the high school. Bishop David Zubik has accepted these recommendations and is announcing today the school name is now - North Catholic High School.

A letter from Bishop David Zubik is being read at all Masses this weekend in all parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh in order to prepare the faithful for the impending public release of the interim Grand Jury report.

WASHINGTON—Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has issued the following statement noting the steps the U.S. Bishops Conference will take in addressing the failures of the Church in protecting the people of God.  

The Diocese of Pittsburgh continues to work for the protection of children and young people and will not tolerate any behavior that puts them at risk. May we all dedicate ourselves to rooting out the evil of sexual abuse from our society.

The Pre-K–8 education programs at North American Martyrs School and Saint Bernadette School, both in Monroeville, and the Pre-K–8 education programs at Assumption School in Bellevue and Northside Catholic School in Brighton Heights will merge effective for the 2018-2019 school year. The Pre-K–8 education program at Saint Rosalia Academy in Greenfield will close at the end of this school year.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh is initiating the nomination and application process for admitting a new class of interested and qualified Catholic men into the Deacon Formation Program, according to an announcement today by Bishop David A. Zubik.

Following the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, called for prayer and healing. 

Bishop David A. Zubik will celebrate a Mass of Remembrance and Healing for persons and families who have suffered due to drug addiction at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland. All are welcome.

My prayer is that those who were grieved by the closing of Saint Anthony will join with their sisters and brothers at Saint Damien of Molokai Parish to bring the faith to new generations of Catholics in Monongahela.

We need to reclaim a culture of life and a civilization of love, in which people actually solve problems by helping others.
