I can’t say there was one moment when a sense of feeling God’s presence overwhelmed me. It was a million little moments. The countless instances of beauty in the pain showed me that God was there, working amid the chaos.

Following up on the promise in his recent pastoral letter, The Church Healing, Bishop David Zubik has appointed four key staff members for the new Secretariat for the Protection of Children, Youth and Vulnerable Adults, which goes into effect on April 1, 2019.

Reverend Kenneth R. Keene, Senior Parochial Vicar of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Saint John Neumann Parish and Sacred Heart Parish, Emsworth died Tuesday, January 1, 2019.  He was ordained to the priesthood on June 24, 1995.

Bishop David Zubik has placed Father James Downs on administrative leave following an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor which the diocese received late yesterday.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh recently received an allegation that Brother David Trichtinger, F.S.C. sexually abused a student at Seton-LaSalle High School when he worked there as a counselor in the 1980s.

Everyone is welcome to attend the celebration, sponsored by the Latino Catholic Apostolate. The apostolate includes the parishes of Saint Regis, South Oakland; Saint Paul, Butler County; St. Catherine of Sienna, Beechview; Our Lady of Joy, Plum; Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Meadow Lands; and Saints John and Paul, Wexford. Following Mass, everyone is invited to a reception in the cathedral social hall.

Reverend Edward M. Czemerda, age 63, Senior Parochial Vicar, St. Agnes Parish, Holy Trinity Parish both in West Mifflin, and Christ the Light of the World Parish, St. Joseph Parish both in Duquesne died, Saturday, November 17, 2018.  He was ordained to the priesthood on May 23, 1987

On September 12, 2018, Bishop David Zubik placed Father Richard M. Lelonis, 73, on administrative leave pending further investigation into two allegations of sexual abuse of minors.

November 8, 2018: The Diocese of Pittsburgh is establishing an independently administered survivors’ compensation program to aid those who suffered abuse at the hands of Catholic clergy.

Bishop David Zubik will host four listening sessions in late November and early December, and is asking parishioners and others to attend to express their thoughts and concerns, and to offer suggestions following the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report.

“Our congregation is now making better use of our resources, and there are similar opportunities in parishes if we’re really willing to look at the future and not just preserve the past,” she said

It wasn’t just my kids trying to get my attention. Jesus was interrupting me to force me to say these words over and over and over until I heard him speak through them.

Cardinal Wuerl, who served the people of Pittsburgh for 18 years as our bishop, requested that Pope Francis allow him to step-down as Archbishop of Washington for the healing of the victims of abuse and their families and for the good of the Church.

With over 900 guests in attendance, the conference teemed with energy and excitement as women from all over Pittsburgh came together to celebrate the beauty and strength of their womanhood within the world and the Church.

As a bishop and as a Christian, I am committed to finding new ways to offer compassion and support for all victims of child sexual abuse, and to ensure they have a voice. The additional spiritual pain that victims of Catholic priests have endured is of especially deep concern to me and to the Church.

Since the release of the grand jury report on August 14, we the Catholic bishops of Pennsylvania have reflected deeply on the ugly record of clergy sexual abuse in our Commonwealth, and on times when Church leadership failed to protect our people over a period of decades.
