On Sunday June 28, 2020 at 10 a.m., Bishop David A. Zubik will livestream a memorial Mass for all local Catholics who have died during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of whom did not have a funeral Mass due to the lockdown.

Bishop David A. Zubik, Diocese of Pittsburgh, will ordain three men to the priesthood during a Mass of Ordination on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.

Bishop William J. Winter, Retired Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, will ordain seminarian Joseph S. Uzar (Joe) as a transitional deacon on Saturday, June 20, at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Carnegie.

As a follow-up to a listening session on February 23, 2020, Bishop David Zubik is pleased to announce the establishment of a personal parish for the black Catholic Community in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, under the title of Saint Benedict the Moor Parish, effective July 13, 2020.

Transition support will be offered for teachers, principals, and families.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce a new name for a new elementary school resulting from the merger of St. Anne, St. Bernard, Our Lady of Grace, and St. Thomas More schools in the South Hills.  The school will be named Ave Maria Academy. The merger will take effect on July 1, 2020.

Bishop David Zubik has accepted a formal recommendation by the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. (CHSDOP) Board of Directors to close Quigley High School effective at the end of the current school year.

Fifteen groupings of parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will merge on July 1, 2020, to create fifteen new parishes, Bishop David Zubik announced today. Sixty-one parishes are part of the mergers.

Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh are preparing to begin offering daily Mass on Monday, June 1, and weekend Masses on June 6 and 7.

"We are eager to return to the comfort of our Churches and join together in prayer as a source of spiritual strength to support us through the suffering and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Bishop Zubik said.

In continued alignment with local and state public health and wellness guidelines and recommendations, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is preparing to allow Churches to reopen for private prayer, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as continuing directives regarding small weddings and funeral Masses. 

To acknowledge the work of all teachers in the Diocese of Pittsburgh as part of Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8, 2020), Bishop David Zubik shared a video blessing for teachers, saying, “May you feel the power of our prayers for you during this entire week.”

Volunteers through the Catholic Community of South Pittsburgh (CSSP) will be distributing 1,200 meals as well as school supple kits on Sunday, May 3, 2020, with a mission of bringing the comfort of Jesus through comfort food during this challenging time.
