Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health protocols, along with recommendations from the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Health Department, all 27 people involved with the North Catholic Varsity Boys Soccer Team will quarantine for 14 days. Student athletes will continue classes online.

A first-grade student at St. Bede School in Point Breeze has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, all first graders will participate in virtual learning for the next 14 days.

Parishes in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh will be allowed to increase attendance at Masses to 50% maximum capacity at each Mass effective this weekend, October 3-4, 2020. 

“While I urge all the faithful of our diocese, both the laity and the clergy, to help build a better society by exercising their right to vote, it is not my role nor can it ever be for me to tell anyone for whom to vote.  As Church, we must be about addressing issues grounded on our faith and tradition,” Bishop Zubik said.

Beginning this Sunday, September 20, 2020, the Diocese of Pittsburgh will shift to offering one livestream Mass per week from the Boyle Hall Chapel at Saint Paul Seminary with Bishop David Zubik. The Mass can be viewed live Sundays at 10:00 a.m. on the diocesan YouTube channel.

Serra Catholic High School has moved all students to online learning due to being notified that two students tested positive for COVID-19.  The school building will remain closed through Monday, September 14, 2020. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution all sports program will be suspended through the weekend.

An employee at Blessed Trinity Parish in the South Hills has tested positive for the coronavirus. Out of an abundance of caution, churches and other buildings in the parish will be closed for extra cleaning and sanitizing.

A parishioner at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Bentleyville received a positive result from a COVID-19 test today. 

The Diocese of Pittsburgh applied for and obtained a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan of $2.5 million used to fund payroll for employees. The federal monies enabled the diocese to avoid, delay, and lessen furloughs and permanent reduction in staffing that supports parishes and schools.

In response to ongoing challenges presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic, Bishop David Zubik announced a reorganization of pastoral staff, and a relocation of central administration operations.

A team from Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh is working with focus groups of parents and teachers, as well as with diocesan officials, to create a responsible COVID-19 reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year.

With additional mitigation efforts ordered for Allegheny County in the midst of a recent uptick in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, churches will stay open, but Bishop David Zubik is strongly urging parishioners to consider their own health, and the health of others when making the decision to go to Mass.

A parishioner with potential exposure to COVID-19 who attended Mass at St. Januarius in Plum has tested negative for the virus.  The parishioner reported being with a relative who later tested positive for COVID-19.  

On June 19, 2020, Bishop David Zubik announced the forming of a personal parish for the Black Catholic community in the Diocese of Pittsburgh under the title of Saint Benedict the Moor Parish (Hill District) effective Monday, July 13, 2020.
