Bishop David A. Zubik is overjoyed to join all the Catholic bishops of Pennsylvania in reinstating the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days, starting August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is calling for a new class of interested and qualified Catholic men to begin formation to serve the Church as permanent deacons, according to an announcement today by Bishop David A. Zubik.

Three men are preparing for ordination this month in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, after years of formation and study.

Four groupings of parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will merge on July 1, 2021, to create four new parishes, Bishop David Zubik announced today. Fifteen parishes will be part of the mergers.

Saint Benedict the Moor elementary school is closed to in-person learning through Monday, May 31, 2021.  School administrators learned of a fifth positive COVID case involving a member of the school community in the past eight days.

In continued alignment with local, state, and federal health guidelines, effective immediately, the fully vaccinated may attend Diocese of Pittsburgh Masses and all gatherings on parish property without wearing a mask. To accommodate those who are not fully vaccinated, and those who may feel more comfortable seated around others who are wearing a mask, a section in every church will be maintained for mask wearing.

Out of an abundance of caution, fifth grade students at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy (Aspinwall) will move to remote learning effective immediately.  The decision was made based on recent COVID cases in the school community and health recommendations after consulting with diocesan officials

Effective Memorial Day, May 31, 2021 and until further notice, all Diocese of Pittsburgh churches may be open at 100% seating capacity. In accordance with state orders, masks must continue to be worn inside churches and parish buildings.

Following consultation with his parish pastoral and finance councils, parishioners, parents, and the diocesan Department for Catholic Schools, Father Joseph McCaffrey, pastor, Holy Spirit Parish (New Castle), submitted his request to Bishop David Zubik to close Holy Spirit Academy. 

Out of an abundance of caution, all students at Holy Family Catholic School (Plum) will participate in remote learning today through Friday, May 7, 2021.  Administrators were notified that a few staff members have been exposed to or are showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Administrators at Northside Catholic Assumption Academy (Pittsburgh/Brighton Heights) have been informed of a ​sixth COVID-positive school community member within the past eight days.

Members of the Central Catholic (Oakland, PA) lacrosse team will move to virtual learning and lacrosse games will be suspended through April 29, 2021 due to a positive COVID case in a person associated with the team.

Due to a second positive COVID case, in an abundance of caution and in compliance with CDC and state guidelines, Saint Wendelin School (Butler) began virtual instruction Friday, March 19, 2021, and will continue through Friday, March 26, 2021.  In-person learning will resume Monday, March 29, 2021.
